CROATOAN NEWSLETTER

January 2023

2023 CALENDARS: AVAILABLE NOW!

Hot off the presses, our 2023 calendars are now available for purchase during Sunday and Monday classes.

Cost is $15/each and can be paid by cash or e-transfer. If paying by e-transfer, please include information about your purchase in the “Memo” section to aid our Treasurers.

FOLKLORE SEMINARS

On January 16 and 17, our Adult and Senior groups enjoyed two days of one-on-one seminars with folklore greats Ivan Ivančan and maestro Siniša Leopold. These seminars help ensure the authenticity of our songs, dances, music, and grow the knowledge and expertise of our teachers. Thank you to everyone who helped make this happen!

MAŠKARE (MARDI GRAS PARTY)

This year, Maškare falls on Saturday, February 18, 2023. CROATOAN will once again host a celebration with live music by TS Melodije, food, and drink in the St. Leopold Mandić Croatian Church Hall. Doors open at 6:00pm. Tickets, available at the door, are $15 if you arrive in costume or $20 without a costume.

45th ANNIVERSARY SPRING CONCERT & BANQUET

After a three-year hiatus we are happy to announce our spring concert and banquet will return on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Algonquin Commons Theatre and St. Leopold Mandić Croatian Church Hall.

Our yearly individual/family and corporate sponsorship program also returns to help fundraise for this important event and the future of our ensemble. Please consider sponsoring our group this year. Early half and full-page sponsors will receive complimentary tickets to Maškare! For more information about the sponsorship tiers and benefits visit www.croatoan.ca/sponsorship.

CROATOAN SCHOLARSHIP

We are once again offering a $500 scholarship to recognize the contributions of an individual in the promotion of Croatian folklore and cultural tradition through their participation, current or previous, in CROATOAN. The scholarship is intended to aid dedicated youth in the community in their pursuit of postsecondary studies. Deadline to apply is March 31 and the recipient will be announced at the spring concert. For more information, visit www.croatoan.ca/scholarship or contact Višnja Beg (audit@croatoan.ca), Scholarship Committee Chair.
