On Saturday, May 4th, 2019, the Croatian Folklore Ensemble Croatoan hosted its 41st Annual Spring Concert. Open to the public, our spring concert is the culmination of our work throughout the year and is an opportunity to share our cultural heritage with Canadians of all backgrounds. This year we performed alongside three talented guest performance groups: Al-Arz Lebanese Arts Group from Ottawa, Rathi School of Dance from Ottawa, and Folklorni Ansambl Hrvatsko Kolo from Mississauga.
Our ensemble's first concert was held on April 28th, 1979 at the Hellenic Centre on Prince of Wales Drive in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Since then, the ensemble has delighted audiences across North America by preserving, protecting and promoting the thrilling harmony of movement and sound that is Croatian folklore. The concert is an opportunity to share authentic dances, music and other ethnocultural pieces including traditional instruments like the tamburica and a collection of regionally-specific costumes known as nošnje.
After the concert, members of the Croatian community gathered at our parish hall for a delicious dinner and dance with entertainment provided by tamburica orchestra Grupa Volta.
A huge thanks to all of our volunteers and guest groups for your hard work and participation. Despite coming off an amazing 40th Anniversary season last year, the 2018/2019 season is in the books and will be remembered as one of the best yet.
